“Like my other colleagues at Raine & Horne Alderley, our
day aboard David McDonald's boat was to be a relaxing day;
stretching sore limbs whilst indulging in drink and finger foods.
This was our mindset prior to boarding, and only when we arrived
did we discover that David had other plans in mind . . .
From the moment our feet left land, we'd been rallied together to achieve
objectives, and in coordinating our efforts we strengthened
our teamwork and fine-tuned communication amongst the group.
Through every twist and turn, our bond held true. From every
failure made, a lesson was learned and wisdom attained. We
continued this path throughout the day, and between throwing
up and timely reprimands, small successes were rewarded.
By the time our feet touched land again, we'd learned
to communicate effectively between ourselves. We understood
that our individual roles functioned like clockwork, and although
each crewmember may have performed their tasks well, it was
the teamwork itself that sailed us through the day and brought
us home again. In a complicated era marred by stress and hectic
workplaces, we become more the by-product of our labour, instead
of our work being the by-product of our efforts. In the miracle
of one day among a clear sky and blue waters, we had shed a
mechanical and monotonous mindset, and in its place gained
something long since lost: A sense of who we are and who we
need to be.
From Raine & Horne Alderley, I'd like to thank David
McDonald for his enlightening day out on the waters. We were
reborn anew from the experience, and took away with us gifts
not sold in any shop. To this day, we remain strong and focussed,
and work forever like the sea-faring team he envisioned us to be. Keep up the great work!”
